The Sequel to the Award-Winning Volkswagen Electric SUV Is a Futuristic Sedan

The Volkswagen ID.4 has been the lone wolf in a one-EV wolfpack since its debut in 2020. However, this VW electric vehicle has managed to single handedly prove you don’t need strength in numbers to launch a new lineup.

Right out of the gate, the VW ID.4 managed to win the coveted World Car of the Year Award and received recognition on several editors’ choice lists from all the major players in the industry. It was also named one of Ward’s 10 Best User Experiences and was selected as an IIHS Top Safety Pick+.

Considering the success this Volkswagen electric SUV has had thus far, expectations are sky high for the German automaker’s first all-electric sedan – the VW ID.7. Arriving on showroom floors in 2025, here’s what we know so far about what’s sure to be another game-changer in the electric vehicle space.

2025 VW ID.7 Main Performance Specs

Hot on the heels of the release of the VW ID. Buzz (an all-electric microbus) in 2024, the VW ID.7 will be the first EV sedan to fly under the Volkswagen banner in the U.S. market. Naturally, comparisons will be made between the ID.7, the ID.4, and similar EV sedans in its class. It has been mentioned once or twice by industry publications that the ID.7 might be a worthy competitor to Tesla sedans – both in performance and in terms of pricing.

The 2025 ID.7 is projected to have a base price of approximately $55,000, although this can change as production dates near. Car and Driver estimates that the VW ID.7 Pro S Plus – the highest trim level – will have a starting MSRP of approximately $63,000.

The reported prices are higher when compared to electric Volkswagen SUV models, but that probably has something to do with the improved battery pack and advanced feature package. Industry publications report that the VW ID.7 will come with an 86kWh battery pack that provides up to 345 miles on a single charge.

Additionally, it is estimated that the VW ID.7 will deliver 282 horsepower and 402 lb-ft of torque, making it one of the most powerful sedans ever built by Volkswagen. Similar to the VW ID.4, the ID.7 will be offered in multiple trim levels, each with their own distinct feature package and aesthetic upgrades that will affect the final sales price.

2025 VW ID.7 Features

Of course, no new VW would be complete without a few new futuristic features to turn the heads of drivers and industry aficionados. The Volkswagen ID.7 will debut an augmented reality head-up display, which is a new technology that projects visuals and text on the front windshield for things like directions and warning signals. The technology will allow drivers to respond more quickly to emergency situations and is easier to use than traditional navigation devices that require drivers to take their eyes off the road.

Other cool new features in the upcoming ID.7 include:

  • Next-generation infotainment system
  • Panoramic sunroof with smart glass, enabling drivers to change opacity with a simple swipe
  • Seats with a built-in massage function

The feature packages on each individual trim level of the ID.7 aren’t set in stone yet, but drivers should expect each version to have advanced safety and intelligent driver assistance features. Plus, the myVW app will provide drivers with numerous remote features that add a little extra convenience to VW ownership. Remote start, last parked location, and roadside assistance requests are all included with the myVW app.
