Meet the 2023 VW ID.4

What to Expect from This Year’s Volkswagen Electric SUV
When VW originally released their first Volkswagen electric SUV in 2020, expectations from drivers and reviewers alike were sky high. After all, the VW ID.4 was the automaker’s first effort in the highly competitive EV space. They were competing against the likes of Tesla and other automakers who had long enjoyed their slice of market share.
The new Volkswagen SUV proved that VW could create an electric vehicle with great range, a future-forward design, an amazing feature package, and the type of driving and handling that consumers expect for a top-performing SUV.
Not only did the VW ID.4 go on to become one of the automaker’s best-selling vehicles, but it also raked in more than a few meaningful accolades. The VW ID.4 went on to win the 2021 World Car of the Year Award and was named one of Wards 10 Best User Experiences. This put the entire industry on notice that VW came ready to compete.
So, what’s next? Let’s dive into what Volkswagen has planned for the brand-new 2023 VW ID.4. After we cover the main updates and performance specs, we’ll fill you in on where you can find this VW electric SUV near you for a test drive.
2023 VW ID.4 – Main Specs and Performance Info
Considering that initial iterations of the Volkswagen ID.4 for sale have done well thus far, drivers shouldn’t expect any major overhauls with the 2023 edition. However, that isn’t to say that upgrades and optimizations aren’t being made.
One of the biggest changes to the VW ID.4 is that it is available in eight different trim levels. The ID.4 standard trim level has a starting MSRP of $38,995; the ID.4 AWD Pro S Plus has a starting MSRP of $55,245. Plus, right now customers can take advantage of a $7500 lease credit on the new ID.4 at Volkswagen Cypress! This limited-time only discount is a huge benefit to customers who are ready to go electric.
When comparing these two trims, the biggest differences are drivetrain (RWD vs. AWD), battery (62kWh vs. 82kWh), and horsepower (201 hp vs. 295 hp). As is the case with any vehicle, the higher the trim level you select, the more features and aesthetic upgrades you get. For instance, the standard trim comes with cloth seating surfaces with leatherette bolsters whereas the highest trim level comes with V-Tex leatherette seating surfaces.
The other reason buyers need to be conscious of trim level when looking at the 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 for sale is that each trim has its own EPA estimated range. They break down as follows:
- ID.4 Standard – 209 miles
- ID.4 Pro – 275 miles
- ID.4 AWD Pro – 255 miles
- ID.4 S – 209 miles
- ID.4 Pro S – 275 miles
- ID.4 AWD Pro S – 255 miles
- ID.4 Pro S Plus – 275 miles
- ID.4 AWD Pro S Plus – 255 miles
For the sake of maximizing your range and keeping your charging visits to a minimum, it’s recommended you go with one of the Pro models of the VW ID.4. Current charging time estimates report that drivers will get up to 80 percent of their battery replenished in approximately 30 minutes when using DC Fast Charging.
2023 VW ID.4 – Standard Features and Warranty
Regardless of the selected trim level, drivers can expect the new Volkswagen SUV to carry an impressive package of safety and infotainment features. Some of the top ones include the ID.Light (the VW version of a voice assistant), intuitive start, a crystal clear touchscreen display, and App-Connect.
Additionally, each trim level of the VW ID.4 will come with IQ.DRIVE, which is a suite of driver assistance features that serve as an extra set of eyes and ears while you’re on the road. They include:
- Lane Assist
- Front Assist
- Travel Assist
- Rear Traffic Alert
- Emergency Assist
- Active Blind Spot Monitor
- Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
The myVW app allows drivers to have more information and tools at their beck and call than ever before. The recently upgraded app will provide the following for VW ID.4 owners:
- Service reminders, scheduling, and vehicle history
- Roadside assistance requests
- Remote battery charging
- Remote climate control
- Charging station locator
Finally, all 2023 trims of the VW ID.4 will come with one of America’s leading warranties – Carefree Coverage. It consists of a suite of services and coverages intended to protect your Volkswagen electric SUV and keep it in pristine condition. It includes:
- 2 yrs. Service – Scheduled Carefree Maintenance (2 years or 20,000 miles)
- 3 yrs. Help – Roadside Assistance (3 years or 36,000 miles)
- 4 yrs. Coverage – New Vehicle Limited Warranty (4 years or 50,000 miles)
- 5 yrs. Access – myVW Remote Access

And Where to Find a Volkswagen SUV for Sale Near You in Houston
Over the past five years, Volkswagen has really stepped up their SUV game.
The VW ID.4 – their first electric vehicle – went on to win the 2021 World Car of the Year Award and tons of other accolades. The new Volkswagen SUV has a range of up to 275 miles on a single charge and is loaded with future forward features.
The VW Taos is another newcomer to the Volkswagen SUV lineup. This subcompact proves that not all SUVs mean taking on a high cost of ownership. With a modest starting MSRP of $24,155, this SUV is one of the most affordable in its class. It also does great on gas mileage, delivering an estimated 28 mpg city/36 mpg highway.
If you’re looking for a Volkswagen SUV for sale near you, then you’ll want to hear about the two newest arrivals that have hit our showroom floor – the 2023 VW Atlas and the 2023 VW Atlas Cross Sport. Let’s get to know more about these two new Volkswagen SUVs.
VW Atlas vs. VW Atlas Cross Sport – Similar Yet Different
To be totally forthcoming, the VW Atlas and the VW Atlas Cross Sport have a lot in common. Since the Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport for sale is directly inspired by the standard Atlas, drivers will notice a lot of overlap in specs and features.
First, both SUVs offer the same two engine options. Drivers can either get a 2.0L Turbo 8-speed Auto with Tiptronic engine or a 2.0L Turbo 8-speed Auto with Tiptronic with 4MOTION®.
Second, both versions of the Atlas are available in front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. Additionally, both vehicles provide drivers with up to 278 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque, and they both have a max towing capacity of 5,000 lbs.
The VW Atlas and VW Atlas Cross Sport also share the same list of driver assistance and infotainment features. Some of the main ones include IQ.DRIVE, VW Digital Cockpit, the myVW app, and the touchscreen media display. Finally, they are both covered under the Carefree Coverage warranty.
Clearly, these two SUVs have a lot in common. Now let’s dive into what makes them distinct.
- The standard VW Atlas offers up to three rows of seating and can accommodate up to seven people. The Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport for sale is a smaller, sportier version of the Atlas, so it only has two rows of seats; however, passengers will get some extra legroom.
- The standard VW Atlas is bigger and offers more storage. Its dimensions are 201″ length x 78″ width x 70″ height. It offers drivers 20.6 cubic feet of storage and up to 96.8 cubic feet of storage with the seats folded down. By comparison, the VW Atlas Cross Sport is 5 inches shorter in length and 2 inches shorter in height. Drivers will have 40.3 cubic feet of storage and up to 77.8 cubic feet of storage with the seats folded down.
- The VW Atlas Cross Sport has a sporty two-tone interior color scheme on the seat upholstery; the VW Atlas uses one color. Drivers will notice some other aesthetic differences, but nothing major.
- Finally, there is a very slight price difference. The starting MSRP for the base level SE trim for the 2023 VW Atlas is $35,150. The VW Atlas Cross Sport base level trim is $34,460.

Get Ahead of the Curve With This New Electric Car in Houston, Texas
Excitement is ramping up in the Volkswagen camp as the manufacturer’s new all-electric vehicles continue to grow in number and availability. We now have more information on the ID.AERO.
The Volkswagen ID.AERO is a concept electric car that Volkswagen unveiled at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show. It is designed to be a high-performance electric car with a sleek and aerodynamic design to maximize its range and efficiency.
Volkswagen ID.AERO Availability
The Volkswagen ID.AERO is still early in its lifecycle, but we expect the new electric cars to be available at a U.S. Volkswagen dealer soon. It will be an exciting addition to the VW lineup, potentially joining the ID.EXTREME all-electric concept off-road car unveiled in 2022.
Volkswagen has stated that the ID.AERO will be the sixth member of the new ID family, which also includes the ID.BUZZ and VW ID.4, and will be available in the United States, Europe, and China.
See the Volkswagen ID.AERO Styling Firsthand at Your Volkswagen Dealer
One of the standout features of the ID.AERO is its design. It follows the ID family design but brings it to a sedan form factor. You can see this most in the front end, characterized by the honeycomb pattern found on the other vehicles in the ID family.
The car has a low, sloping roofline and a sharply angled front end to help it slice through the air with minimal resistance. It also has a wide stance and a long wheelbase, which helps to improve its stability and handling.
Because the ID.AERO doesn’t use a big, gas-powered engine, there’s an incredible amount of space in the vehicle’s interior despite its overall diminutive size.
The two-tone, 22-inch wheels also stand out with their turbine design integrated into the wheel housing. There are no door handles here; instead, you’ll find touch surfaces for opening the doors. This isn’t just a cool gimmick; it also results in less air drag.
The light metallic paint creates a golden shimmer effect in the right lighting conditions, whereas the roof is painted in high-gloss black for a contemporary look. The headlights are also impressive – IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights that wrap into the side panels and wings.
The light strip continues all the way around the vehicle’s body and ends in a dominant, striking dark light strip at the rear. Volkswagen has been bold with its design decisions for the ID.AERO, and that’s paid off in spades.
Volkswagen ID.AERO Performance: Expect Big Things from This Electric Vehicle
In terms of performance, the ID.AERO is powered by two electric motors, one on the front axle and one on the rear axle. This allows the car to have all-wheel drive, which helps to improve its traction and handling. The car has a range of up to 373 miles on a single charge and can reach a top speed of 155 mph.
The ID.AERO’s lithium-ion battery has a net energy content of 99 kilowatt hours. Perhaps the most exciting thing about the ID.AERO is its massive range, as there should no longer be any worry that you will run out of charge at an inopportune time.
Volkswagen ID.AERO Technology
Expect high-tech features from a high-tech new electric car. The ID.AERO features several advanced technologies, including an augmented reality head-up display and a fully digital instrument cluster. The car also has several driver-assist features, such as adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist, which help to make driving a more enjoyable and stress-free experience.
Overall, the Volkswagen ID.AERO is an exciting concept that showcases the potential of electric vehicles to be high-performance, efficient, and technologically advanced. While it may not be available for sale quite yet, it provides a glimpse into the future of electric cars and the exciting possibilities they hold. Watch for it at Volkswagen Cypress, a Volkswagen dealer in Houston.

How to Get a Good Deal on a Used Volkswagen

Save Big on Used Cars for Sale in Houston at a Volkswagen Dealership Near You
For good reason, Volkswagen is a brand at the pinnacle of the automotive market. With more than 85 years of innovation, Volkswagen has always been at the forefront, pushing automotive technology further.
These days, the German manufacturer’s vehicles are world-renowned for their reliability, comfort, and quality. Perhaps above all, Volkswagen is known for its incredible attention to detail.
So why wouldn’t you want to snag a used Volkswagen at a great price? Keep reading to find out the how and the why.
Volkswagen Cars Are Often the Best Used Cars for Sale in Houston
Volkswagen vehicles are often sought after as used car purchases. Their outstanding longevity means you can purchase an older vehicle without worrying about how long it will last in the future while saving you a ton of money over the price of a new Volkswagen in Houston, TX.
Because Volkswagen models are typically ahead of the curve in technology, safety, and economy, you can be confident that buying a used Volkswagen doesn’t mean giving up on all modern conveniences. You can often get a much better vehicle if you purchase a used one than a new one.
Which Are the Best Used Volkswagens to Buy?
A top-rated used Volkswagen vehicle is the Volkswagen Jetta. Pre-2019 models on the market are the sixth-generation Jetta, the first version of the car that used its own dedicated bodywork instead of being a derivative of the Volkswagen Golf. It was sold new at a highly competitive price, and sales in the United States were excellent, which is why it’s a common sight at used car dealerships near you.
You’ll also find the seventh-generation Jetta, which is larger and offers more interior room than the sixth. The interior saw a significant change, with a digital cockpit and an infotainment system supporting both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Another top used Volkswagen choice is the Volkswagen Passat. You’ll find a few versions of the Passat at used car dealerships near you. All models from 2016 onward have a range of technology improvements, such as available touchscreens, LED headlights and taillights, and Volkswagen’s Car-Net connectivity system.
Getting a Great Deal on a Used Volkswagen
Often, the best reason to choose a Volkswagen over the other used vehicle manufacturer options is all the extras you will get in your vehicle. Used Volkswagens usually include several high-end options you won’t find on other manufacturers’ cars for the same price. The beauty of purchasing used is that you can get these state-of-the-art technologies without paying any depreciation costs.
It’s essential to choose a reliable Volkswagen dealership near you for your purchase. Though you can undoubtedly purchase Volkswagen vehicles on the private market, it’s trickier to avoid buying a vehicle with issues when you buy privately. If you purchase privately, be sure to engage the services of a professional mechanic to look over every inch of the vehicle for you.
An authorized, respected, pre-owned Volkswagen dealership in Houston is the safe bet, as you can see from the experiences of past purchasers online that the dealership is to be trusted and you have the option of certified pre-owned.
Consider Certified Pre-Owned Volkswagen Vehicles in Houston, TX
Volkswagen offers a certified pre-owned category of used cars, so you can have even more confidence that the used Volkswagen you purchase will be in near-showroom condition. The Volkswagen Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) program means that every certified vehicle sold comes with a limited warranty specific to the model.
For example, most model years, when certified, come with a two-year, 24,000-mile limited warranty, whatever comes first. This includes a complete CARFAX vehicle report, a 100+ point dealer inspection, a three-month SiriusXM trial subscription, and 24-hour roadside assistance.
Repairs covered under each limited warranty will be performed at no charge, though there is an affordable $50 deductible.
Choose a Dealership With a VW Service Center
Another way to ensure you get the best deal on a used Volkswagen is to choose an authorized VW dealership with a VW service center. A used car dealership near you, like Volkswagen Cyprus in Houston, TX, has a trained, dedicated team of automotive technicians with expert knowledge of Volkswagen vehicles.
You can’t go wrong when you buy a used Volkswagen from a reputable dealership. You have the additional peace of mind of knowing you can return to the dealership for all your future servicing and maintenance needs, making the entire process even more pleasant.

And How to Find the All-New VW Taos for Sale at a Volkswagen Dealer Near You in Houston
We’re kicking off a new year, and you know what that means. People making new year’s resolutions about finally getting back into the gym, sticking to a diet, or quitting a bad habit. You could go that route, but why not resolve to treat yourself to a better vehicle?
A new year means that your local Volkswagen dealer in Houston will have a variety of new cars for sale. The 2023 model year lineup promises to be one of the most exciting yet for drivers who have been holding out for the perfect car to come along. One of the vehicles we’re especially thrilled about is the 2023 VW Taos for sale, which is already parked on our showroom floor and ready for test driving.
This new VW for sale is a game-changer in the compact SUV category because it tackles one major problem that new car buyers struggle with – cost of ownership. Let’s dig in a little deeper on how the VW Taos brings affordability front-and-center.
The 2023 VW Taos – One of the Most Affordable SUVs on the Market
When shopping for new cars for sale, the SUV category can make some drivers a little wary. Historically, they have a higher sticker price because they require more materials to construct the chassis and other critical parts. Additionally, SUVs aren’t as fuel-efficient when compared to sedans due to the additional curb weight. That’s the trade-off for getting a vehicle with additional cabin and storage space, not to mention the towing power.
However, with year-over-year inflation still clocking in at over 7 percent and the cost of fuel still hanging at relatively high levels, many drivers are choosing affordability in lieu of an SUV. Regarding the 2023 VW Taos for sale, Volkswagen is showing drivers that it’s possible to get a vehicle that delivers all those classic SUV hallmarks for a price they can afford.
First, the 2023 VW Taos has a starting MSRP of just $24,155, which makes it one of the most affordable vehicles in the SUV category. Additionally, the new Taos soars in the fuel economy department. When driving in ideal conditions, the VW Taos gets up to 28 miles per gallon in the city and a whopping 36 miles per gallon on the highway. This means you’ll be hitting up the gas pumps in Houston far less often than most SUV drivers.
Another thing that drivers love about the VW Taos for sale is that it comes with one of America’s leading vehicle warranty packages – Carefree Coverage. It consists of a suite of coverages and services intended to keep the vehicle in pristine condition and protect it, just in case anything goes wrong. Carefree Coverage includes:
2 yrs. Scheduled Carefree Maintenance (2 years or 20,000 miles)
3 yrs. Roadside Assistance (3 years or 36,000 miles)
4 yrs. New Vehicle Limited Warranty (4 years or 50,000 miles)
5 yrs. myVW Remote Access
When you bring your VW Taos in for maintenance or repair, Carefree Coverage will appear in the Volkswagen service center’s records, making the process simple and easy.
Finally, the 2023 VW Taos ranks at No. 1 for the lowest cost of maintenance in the compact internal combustion engine (ICE) SUV segment, based on a model-level analysis performed by Vincentric, LLC in July 2022. This all adds up to the VW Taos being one of the most affordable SUVs on the market today.
Test Driving the 2023 VW Taos for Sale at a Volkswagen Dealer Near You
Although the VW Taos is garnering a ton of press based on low cost of ownership alone, this game-changing SUV has a ton to offer in the performance, storage, and features department. With a max cargo space of 65.9 cubic feet, the VW Taos is more than capable of tackling even the biggest of grocery trips and holiday shopping sprees. Additionally, you’ll enjoy great features such as App-Connect® smartphone integration, BeatsAudio® sound system, and Volkswagen Digital Cockpit Pro with 10.25” configurable digital instrument display.
The best way to get to know the new 2023 VW Taos is by taking a test drive at your local Volkswagen dealer. You can do that by visiting VW Cypress, conveniently located at 19550 Northwest Fwy. You can also contact us at (281) 532-8824 or email us directly using the contact form on our website. Important notification to our customers: Volkswagen Cypress SALES operations will move into its new location at 11411 Farm to Market 1960 West in Houston, TX, after the holidays! SERVICE operations will also move to a new location after the holidays. Its new stand-alone building can be found at 10828 Steepletop Drive in Houston, TX, located just one minute away from the SALES.

How VW Plans to Usher in the Current and Future Generations of Electric Vehicles
The age of electric vehicles is upon us, and we see that more and more with each passing year as more EVs are released and more people make “the switch” – the official conversion from fuel-based vehicles to battery. According to the most recent data, more people are making the switch over to EVs than ever. In fact, registrations for electric vehicles increased by 60 percent in the first quarter of 2022.
So, what exactly is driving these conversions? And how are automobile manufacturers laying out their EV transition to accommodate drivers? Let’s break this down.
What’s Driving Electric Vehicle Popularity?
First, the quality and performance of modern electric vehicles far surpasses the ones coming out even as recently as five years ago. They have amazing feature packages, appealing interior and exterior design, and tout single-charge ranges that rival a full tank of gas. For instance, the VW ID.4 (Pro model) can get up to 275 miles on a single charge, which is more than enough mileage to make it through your weekly commuting and regular errands.
Another thing that’s driving the transition over to electric vehicles is the cost of ownership. Electric vehicles are finally affordable and more in line with what the average car buyer is willing to spend. It also doesn’t hurt that owning an electric vehicle means that drivers will never have to spend a single cent on gasoline ever again. As people learned over the summer, an unfavorable influx in gas prices can wreak havoc on a family’s monthly budget. Those who were fortunate enough to own an electric vehicle were able to avoid that issue. Those who didn’t gave some serious thought about new electric cars and how they might save them money at the pump.
Electric vehicles have successfully become a major part of the overall vehicle market, and car manufacturers know that slice of the proverbial pie will continue to grow, especially with incentives like the $7,500 tax credit per the Inflation Reduction Act.
What Plans Does Volkswagen Have Regarding EV Transition?
Currently, Volkswagen only has one electric vehicle in their entire lineup – the VW ID.4. However, things are going to be changing in the very near future. One of the first things that VW will do is offer a wider variety of electric vehicles. This will include the VW ID.LIFE, the VW ID.Buzz, the VW ID.Aero, and the VW ID.8. In addition to the offering of all-electric SUVs, they will be adding a microbus and a luxury sedan into the mix.
The commitment to electric vehicle production was recently confirmed by Oliver Blume, new CEO of the Volkswagen Group. When Herbert Diess vacated the CEO position, there was some speculation that VW may not be as “full steam ahead” on the EV path as they once were. Blume laid that rumor to rest on day one.
Blume was quoted, saying, “I am a fan of e-mobility and I stand by this path…we will keep the current pace and, where possible, increase it.” Blume has also gone on record saying that he intends to increase the amount of VW EVs in circulation and fix the supply chain issues that are causing shipping delays. One big move that was recently made was the shift in manufacturing of the VW ID.4 from overseas to a domestic plant located in Chattanooga, TN. Not only does this fix the supply chain issue problem, but it also ensures that drivers will be eligible for the $7,500 tax credit.
Based on what Blume is saying and the scheduled release of a wider variety of electric vehicles from VW, drivers can expect Volkswagen to remain committed to the path of eco-friendly vehicles. They can also expect current vehicles – like the VW Tiguan – to be offered in all-electric versions.

The Five Core Benefits of Electric Vehicles

Why You Should Consider a New VW Electric Car for Sale for Your Next Purchase
Electric vehicles are all the rage right now. According to recent statistics, electric vehicles represented close to 11 percent of all new vehicle sales in 2021. The website Inside EVs reports that more than 5.7 million electric vehicles were sold during the first eight months of 2022.
Clearly, there is a sea change happening here in the automobile market, and much of it has transpired in the past five years or so. What changed? First, the vehicles themselves got better. Manufacturers rolled out better designs with more advanced features and superior batteries. Another advancement is the charging infrastructure. Charging stations are everywhere now, which means that drivers of EVs are no longer afraid of getting stranded without a charging solution.
So, what exactly are the core benefits of electric vehicles? How do they stack up these days compared to traditional vehicles? Let’s break down the core benefits.
Core Benefit #1 – They Solve the Gas Problem
Over the summer, we saw some of the highest gas prices in history. In fact, some truck and SUV drivers reported paying well over $100 for a tank of gas. Guess who was able to make it through relatively unscathed by high gas prices. If you said EV drivers, you’d be correct.
Although charging an electric vehicle isn’t free, it costs way less than a tank of gas. Recent charging statistics estimate that it costs anywhere between $10 and $30 to charge an EV, depending on the vehicle itself and the charging method.
Core Benefit #2 – Electric Vehicles Are Affordable Now
Although there are still some electric vehicle manufacturers that are charging over $100,000 for their new electric cars, other manufacturers, like Volkswagen, believe that electric vehicles should be affordable. The VW ID.4, which is the first all-electric SUV from Volkswagen, has a starting MSRP of $37,495.
Core Benefit #3 – New EVs Come with a Nice Tax Credit
Through the Inflation Reduction Act, purchasers of brand-new electric vehicles are eligible for a tax credit worth up to $7,500. However, one of the major caveats is that the vehicle must have been built in the United States.
Good news for EV buyers out there – the VW ID.4 has shifted its manufacturing to a plant located in Chattanooga, TN. The 2023 model year of the VW ID.4 will qualify for the tax credit.
Core Benefit #4 – Electric Vehicles Have Incredible Range Now
One of the big holdups for drivers regarding electric vehicles was the range. Simply put, when electric vehicles first rolled off the assembly line, their maximum driving range on a single charge wasn’t too impressive.
However, the range issue is quite different when looking at new electric cars. EVs can now go farther than ever. In fact, the VW ID.4 Pro model can travel up to 275 miles on a single charge.
Core Benefit #5 – Electric Vehicles Impact the Climate the Least
According to recent statistics, toxic pollution is one of the leading risk factors for non-communicable diseases. One of the driving forces behind toxic pollution are vehicles powered by fossil fuels.
One huge benefit of electric vehicles that affects everyone is they are the least impactful on the environment when compared to traditional vehicles. This is why the push is being made to have EVs represent 50 percent of the vehicle market by 2030. It will go a long way in preserving the planet.

Looking for a New Volkswagen? Here are the Most Notable Upgrades
If you’ve been shopping for new cars for sale in Houston, then you know that the 2023 models are already showing up on showroom floors at a Volkswagen dealership near you. Drivers looking for new cars for sale will be able to check out the latest models of the VW Arteon, VW ID.4, VW Atlas, and many more.
A slate of new model year vehicles typically means that the vehicles from the previous year are available at a slightly lower price point. So, the question becomes: “What are the main differences between the 2022 and 2023 models of Volkswagen?”
Should you go with the 2022 model, or should you pay a little bit more for the latest edition of the vehicle you’re looking at?
Let’s break down some of the most noteworthy changes, and then how to find the best new cars for sale at a Volkswagen dealership near you.
The Advancement of the VW ID.4
For those of you who haven’t kept up with all the press the Volkswagen ID.4 has been getting over the past couple of years, it’s the first all-electric release under the VW banner and was the winner of the 2021 World Car of the Year Award. Since its American roll-out, it’s been one of the hottest selling cars in the country. The future-forward design, elevated feature package, and generous single-charge range (275 miles on the Pro model) make the ID.4 the ideal choice for the driver who’s been waiting for an affordable EV that packs a punch.
Now on the verge of the 2023 model release, there have been a couple of new developments. It is being reported that the 2023 iteration of the VW ID.4 will introduce a new, more affordable baseline trim level, starting around $35,000. This undercuts the current ID.4 standard edition by roughly $2,500.
Additionally, the new ID.4 models will be manufactured in Chattanooga, TN. Volkswagen has brought their manufacturing to a stateside locale so that drivers can take advantage of the electric vehicle tax credit (up to $7,500).
What’s New on Other 2023 VW Models?
For the 2023 model year of VW vehicles, don’t expect sweeping redesigns or drastic changes. Many of the vehicles in the VW lineup are getting upgraded in their technology and features with mild to moderate cosmetic changes.
For instance, the 2023 VW Arteon will be available in three trims and will include a better offering of features in its standard trim. They include heated steering wheel, fog lights, and LED headlights, just to name a few.
The 2023 iteration of the VW Golf GTI will be available in four trims, including a special limited edition 40th anniversary trim to celebrate one of the world’s most impressive hatchbacks. The 2023 VW Golf GTI will feature active cornering headlights, LED fog lights, and LED headlights with minor cosmetic changes. Meanwhile, the 2023 VW Golf R will also be making minor cosmetic changes.
The VW Atlas and VW Atlas Cross Sport are two of the most popular new cars for sale in Houston. They’ve got plenty of storage, power, and towing capacity for the most demanding of SUV drivers. For 2023, VW engineers are giving them both an upgrade by including Digital Cockpit Pro on Technology models.
The VW Jetta reigns supreme as the most fuel-efficient vehicle in the VW lineup that doesn’t run on an electric motor. After getting a fairly comprehensive redesign in 2022, the 2023 model of the VW Jetta will add remote start on the SE model with a few cosmetic changes.
The VW Taos made its debut not that long ago, so drivers shouldn’t expect any major overhauls of this SUV for at least a few years. For the upcoming 2023 model, VW will be adding some additional features across all three trim levels. They include front assist, rear traffic alert, and blind spot monitoring.
Similar to the Volkswagen Jetta, the VW Tiguan just had a refresh in 2022. For the 2023 SE R-Line model of the Tiguan, drivers will be able to get 19-inch black alloy wheels.

The 20th Anniversary Edition of the Golf R – Coming Soon to a Volkswagen Dealership Near You
For the 2023 iteration of the VW Golf R, Volkswagen has cooked up something special. Next year will be the unveiling of the 20th anniversary edition of the Golf R, which will celebrate this hatchback’s two decades of dominance in the compact hatchback vehicle category.
Hein Schafer, senior VP of product marketing and strategy said, “Twenty years is a significant milestone for the R performance brand of models, and we’re excited to share in a global celebration of two decades of R32 and Golf R heritage. Being the first official worldwide special model for the Golf R, it was important to include our North American Volkswagen performance hatch enthusiasts in this birthday party for the Golf R brand.”
According to a recent press release from the Volkswagen Group, approximately 1,800 units of the VW Golf R 20th anniversary edition will be offered. We suggest checking with a Volkswagen dealership near you to arrange a pre-order; this is the only way to ensure this special edition vehicle is reserved.
Other notable things about the Golf R that drivers can look forward to include:

It will utilize an advanced MQB chassis (a VW exclusive) and turbocharged 315-horsepower EA888 evo4 TSI® engine. In addition to the 6-speed manual offering, the VW Golf R anniversary edition will also be offered in a 7-speed DSG® dual-clutch automatic transmission version. Finally, drivers will have their choice of three colors: Lapiz Blue Metallic, Deep Black Pearl, and Pure White.
The 20th anniversary edition of the VW Golf R will go on sale in Q2 of 2023. It will have an MSRP of $44,940 for the manual transmission model and $45,740 for the 7-speed DSG. How This Will Improve the Process of Sourcing Materials for Volkswagen Cars
People are finally coming around to electric vehicles. The big catalyst was the huge spike in gas prices. That made everyone stop and think for a moment whether they could realistically afford spending upwards of $60 to $70 for a tank of gas. In fact, some SUV drivers were paying well over $100 per tank. Add inflation on top of it and you can see why drivers are reevaluating the future of their automobiles.
A perfect storm is currently in effect. Used vehicles are fetching a pretty penny on the trade-in market and electric cars are now more affordable than ever. The award-winning all-electric SUV – the VW ID.4 – starts at an MSRP of $37,495 and can get up to 275 miles on a single charge (Pro model). That is more than enough mileage to get you through your weekly commute at a sticker price that’s well beneath the main competitors in the space.
Another thing that car buyers forget about when it comes to EVs is the federal tax credit. The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 offered a tax credit up to $7,500 based on the vehicle’s gross weight rating and vehicle’s traction battery capacity. However, that only applied to vehicles that were purchased before August 17th, 2022. The future of tax credits will be a bit different moving forward.
Breaking Down How EV Tax Credits Will Work in the Future
Let’s say that you’re looking to go all-electric with your next Volkswagen car. That means you should get familiar with the tax credit to ensure you’re taking full advantage of it. Starting January 1st, 2023, the tax credit on electric cars is going to change slightly. It breaks down as follows:
- Electric vehicles that meet the critical mineral requirements are eligible for a $3,750 tax credit
- Electric vehicles that meet the battery component requirements are eligible for a $3,750 tax credit
- Electric vehicles that meet both requirements are eligible for a $7,500 tax credit
However, there’s one major sticking point with this. To be eligible for these tax credits, the battery of the electric vehicle must have been sourced and manufactured in North America. Currently, a Volkswagen car wouldn’t qualify because they are assembled in Europe. However, that is set to change thanks to a couple recent maneuvers.
How VW is Going to Qualify Their EVs for the Federal Tax Credit
From a business and sales standpoint, you can see how important it is that Volkswagen is able to secure eligibility for the EV federal tax credit. Nobody wants to feel like they’re missing out on huge savings like that.
To address this, VW has signed what’s called a memorandum of understanding with the Canadian government. This allows them to formally begin talks of bringing a portion of their electric vehicle battery sourcing and manufacturing to Canada. If VW were to be able to source their cobalt, lithium, and nickel in Canada, this would effectively satisfy one of the tax credit requirements.
Regarding the other requirement pertaining to North American manufacturing, VW plans to do this in their plant which is located in Chattanooga, Tennessee. It is being estimated by VW higher-ups that the plant will crank out over 90,000 electric vehicles in 2023, and every one of them should be eligible for the full $7,500 tax credit.
